Answering our questions, Scarlet Grace and Summer-Rose talk about their upcoming projects – Truth Seekers and The Call of Mektoub: A Christmas Story, Scarlet’s short films and Summer’s mini-album release.
Have you both always had an interested in screen and voiceover work, and how did you both start?
Scarlet – I’ve always had an interest in screen work, I had my first role in front of the camera at the age of ten, in a short film called Milk. I loved the whole experience and that kick-started my passion for the film industry. I then ventured into the world of voiceovers and recorded a couple of samples for my voice reel, on the back of that I was signed to a London Voice Agent and have had many voiceover jobs since!
Summer – Watching my sister Scarlet over the years, I’ve been keen to follow in her footsteps. I am signed to my acting agent for TV/film and theatre work and have the same Voiceover Agent in London as Scarlet and we have both been lucky to work during lockdown at our home studio, which has been really fun!
Can you tell us about any training you do?
Scarlet – Currently I’m at a full-time performing arts school called ArtsEd, studying a BTEC in Acting and Film Studies A Level. Before attending ArtsEd, I trained at Ridgeway Studios where I started learning to dance, sing and act.
Summer – I train at the Ridgeway Studios Performing Arts School. I take classes in Drama, Ballet, Tap and Modern and private singing. I am taking my next LAMDA exam in August and Grade 2 dance exams soon, which I’m really excited about. I also LOVE learning Acro and gymnastics and train over eight hours a week with my squad which I love and have competed in many gymnastics competitions over the last three years.
As sisters, how would you describe each other?
Scarlet – There’s quite a big age gap between Summer and I, ten years in fact! Most of the time we get on, but like all sisters we have our moments! I would describe Summer as strong-willed, cute, cheeky and hugely energetic, she never fails to make me laugh!
Summer – Scarlet is crazy! She’s very funny and always cracks jokes and does different accents. She always says she’s the funniest person in the family! But I am, haha. I would describe Scarlet as a funny, crazy girl who loves to make everyone laugh.
How do you like to spend your spare time and do you have any favourite TV shows or films to watch?
Scarlet – My favourite TV show to watch at the moment is Money Heist, I’ve just finished Series 4 and I cannot wait for the next one to come out. My favourite film is Shutter Island, I’m a big fan of Leo (DiCaprio), and I love thrillers with a twist! In my free time, I like to spend lots of time with my friends socialising, and I love to go into Central London.
Summer – My favourite show at the moment is Hannah Montana! Its on Disney+ and I watch it every day. I love it. I also love CBBC’s Malory Towers about girls who are at a boarding school and all the adventures they get up to. In my spare time, I LOVE to make slime! Although it’s very messy! I also love to draw and play with our dog Bella, I also love jumping and flipping on my trampoline!
You have been announced to play Charlotte White in the upcoming Amazon series Truth Seekers, what was this like to film?
Yes! I’m really looking forward to Truth Seekers being released! I can’t wait for you all to see it. I love my character Charlotte! It was really fun to play a teenage character who I could relate to, for a change! The script is fantastic, huge credit to the writers Nat Saunders and James Serafinowicz. This is the second time I’ve worked with them and they really do know how to create great comedy!
How was the experience on set and what was it like working with the rest of the cast?
The most amazing part about working on Truth Seekers was working with actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost! They were really hilarious to work with and I loved filming all of my scenes with Nick.
What are you looking forward to for the release?
I’m so excited for the release of Truth Seekers, hopefully it should be soon! I think people are going to really enjoy watching Truth Seekers because it’s absolutely hilarious, with a great cast too! I cannot wait for you all to see it!
Can you tell us about any voiceover work you’ve done recently?
I absolutely love doing voiceovers, and over the past two years I’ve been really enjoying the work I’ve been doing! At the moment, I’ve actually got a big project that I’m waiting for the go ahead on, which I’m really excited about! I’ve been offered the job and have already recorded the pilot, now just waiting for the go ahead.
With your first short film, GUILT, released last year, what was the response like to it and what plans do you have for future writing projects?
My first short film GUILT last year was a success! I took it to That Film Festival in Cannes and it was screened in front of multiple investors. The reaction and responses were great and I’m really excited to make more short films in the future, which I will definitely be entering into more film festivals! I’m actually writing another short film at the moment which will be bigger and better than my last one! More will be revealed nearer the time of production and the release!
You will be voicing the role of Lucy in The Call of Mektoub: A Christmas Story, how did it feel booking the role?
Yes, that’s right 😃. I was SO excited when I was told that they wanted me to be the voice of Lucy as it’s the main character and a lot of lines to read and record. I’ve had amazing feedback from the writer and director saying how happy they are with Lucy and that I’m doing a great job and perfect for the role. So, that’s really lovely. I’ve been working really hard recording it but I also find it really fun.
Can you tell us more about your character?
Lucy is a little girl who loves Christmas and anything magical. She’s smart and inquisitive and says what she thinks. It’s a lovely Christmas story with a great storyline and full of reindeers, polar bears, Santa and even a fairy!
How excited are you to see the project released?
Really excited! I have seen and heard some of the recording and animation and it looks soooo good. I also have just been offered a role on a short film which I will start filming in a month’s time so that’s really exciting and I can’t wait to get started.
You’ve recently released your first mini-album, how long have you been working on it and how did you choose the songs to record?
Yes, that’s right, I have a mini-album with musical songs I recorded available to download on all major platforms worldwide. Spotify, iTunes and Amazon. I have been working with a top musical director from the West End and been having lots of fun recording some covers from different shows.
We understand you are a dancer and gymnast, can you say more about this?
YES!!! I love ALL different types of dance. I really love tap. I train at the Ridgeway Studios Performing Arts School and have been there since I was two-and-a-half years old. I would love to continue my training at ArtsEd when I’m older as it’s a bit of a family tradition as my grandma, aunty, mum and sister all attended ArtsEd. I am in LOVE with acro and gymnastics. I am a member of a squad local to where I live and spend hours practicing tricks and I’m so happy that during lockdown I got my aerial and back handspring! I also have competed in lots of gymnastics and tumbling competitions so I am looking forward to doing more when things get back to normal hopefully.
