Actress Gabriella Martinez could be seen this year in TV comedy Young Sheldon as well as appearing in the music video for Cheat Codes & Little Mix’s Only You. With her continuous acting roles, Gabriella has recently worked on 1 Interrogation and The Immortal Wars: Resurgence, with release dates for both yet to be announced. Chatting to us, Gabriella talks about what she looks for in a role, shooting the Only You music video and working on Young Sheldon.

When did you realise you wanted to become an actress?

Hi there! Thank you so much for having me. I started with dance and got into theatre when I entered fourth grade. After a few short productions I quickly fell in love with the craft. My mom realised I was serious about an acting career and I met with my first manager.

What do you look for in a role?

What I look for in a role is a strong character. I love being able to tell different stories through the screen. Having a character that is driven and goes through major development is where I feel art will imitate life in films.

What was it like appearing in the Cheat Codes & Little Mix music video for Only You?

Cheat Codes and Little Mix are such talented artists and had a wonderful vision for the music video. The set was so lovely and working with Cheat Codes was awesome, they are hilarious.

How were you involved and how long did it take to shoot?

I appeared in the shoot as a bully who then becomes a friend to Lisa, who acts alongside Peyton List. I was on set for about twelve hours for the scenes that I was in. I understand the beach scenes were two days long.

What was it like on the set of Young Sheldon?

The set of Young Sheldon was incredible. I met great people and worked with an amazing director, David Howie. Once we cut, Iain (Young Sheldon) would make everyone laugh on set. Before the action call we were all giggling and then had to put on our serious faces once the camera came on.

Who is your character Kate?

Kate is a friend of Sheldon’s who stars with him in the school play of Annie. Jason Alexander, our theatre teacher in the episode, encourages us to help him get over his stage fright.

How was it seeing your episode aired?

I remember sitting on my couch watching the episode with my family and it was strange to see my face on my TV. I loved watching the show, the writing is so funny and the actors are so clever.

How long were you filming The Immortal Wars: Resurgence?

This project was filmed in Las Vegas in the heart of the desert. I trained doing stunts for a couple of days before we went out to film. Once we got on location it took two days to knock out all of the fight scenes and choreography.

Can you tell us about your character Celestia?

Celestia is a dominion who is fighting in the rebellion and has powers of the sea. She gets a rough hand in this world when she is forced to fight for her life.

When and how did you find out you’d got the role?

Joe Lujan, who is an awesome up and coming director, called me and offered me the role and told me all about Celestia and I fell in love with her.

Have you attended film festivals, if so, what are they like?

Although I would love to attend more film festivals, I have only been to two. One festival I attended was the New Filmmakers of LA screening for a short I starred in titled “Wannabe”. They are a great opportunity to meet aspiring directors, actors, and producers. There is a lot of networking and press at these events, it is so exciting.

What can you tell us about 1 Interrogation and your character?

1 Interrogation is a film about a Detective, Dan Hewitt Owens, who has been in the force for forty years. I play Valerie in this film who is a suspect in the murder of her ex-boyfriend. This film was fun to work on and brought out a different role that I could expand with.

You produced Obsession in 2014, would you like to do more production work?

Obsession was a great time because I was able to play a role in the film but also help with the production. I would love to do production work again but my favourite part of being on set is being able to do what I love most.

Are you currently filming any roles?

I just wrapped another short directed by my fabulous friend, Fabrizio Guido. As of now, I have some future projects pending. To stay up to date with my projects please follow me on social media and please check out my IMDb. Thank you so much!
