Trinity Bliss released her new self-written single will they won’t they on streaming/download platforms on Tuesday 21st July, having released further original musical regularly this year – chemistry, i like like you and run after me. Alongside her music releases, Trinity has filmed music videos for her YouTube channel, and she is working on her debut album forever fool for a future release. As well as Trinity being a music artist, she has an acting career and made her feature film debut in 2022 in James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water as Tuk, and she reprised her role last year for Avatar: Fire and Ash, reuniting with some of the cast members at the film premieres. In The Life of Chuck (which is based on the 2020 novella by Stephen King), Trinity played Cat McCoy, and in the live-action series The Really Loud House, Trinity played guest character Stella Zhau before going on to play her in the Halloween TV movie A Really Haunted Loud House. For the Apple TV series Best Foot Forward, Trinity filmed opposite Logan Marmino and Peyton Jackson when she played Gabriella, and in the 2022 sitcom The Garcias – the sequel to The Brothers Garcia, Trinity worked with the original cast members playing Alexa Huh Garcia. As a voice actor, Trinity voiced Rita Raspberry across all episodes of Princess Power for Netflix and Marzipan in the Christmas film Glisten and the Merry Mission. We found out from Trinity about her new single will they won’t they (which is available on streaming and download platforms), writing her original music including this year’s releases chemistry, i like like you and run after me, playing Tuk in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise and her further screen and voiceover roles.
Can you tell us about your new single will they won’t they, which you released on streaming/download platforms on Tuesday 21st July, and how has it been seeing the listeners’ response so far?
will they won’t they is all about living in the “almost” where, for a second, it feels like anything could be possible. I think questions can be more fun than answers.
I couldn’t be happier getting to see and hear everyone share their reactions to the song. I love hearing how it transported them to the beach or teenage dreams or overwhelming nostalgia or puts them in a good mood and is becoming a part of their daily soundtrack.
One of my favourite messages came from someone who said the song made them feel like they were back in a summer they didn’t realise they missed. Another person texted their crush and said, “Free will for the win”.
Where did you get the inspiration from to write will they won’t they, and what did you enjoy most about writing the lyrics?
I love writing lyrics that capture those little moments that sometimes get overlooked. The song was inspired by a real beach day in Malibu.
I can be an overthinker, but I love how this song doesn’t have that. It treasures and basks in the uncertainty. It’s flirtatious. It’s playful. It’s cheeky. It’s honest. I hope people are placed right there with how visceral and visual the lyrics are, and how up front the emotions are communicated.
I remember driving home along the Pacific Coast Highway and through the Malibu canyons, windows down at one point, the whole day filling my head… When you wish a moment could stay, but you feel like you left your heart there anyway as your head replays and replays… All these feelings from the drive home and the day stayed with me until I wrote the song.
How long had your new single been in the making and how much had it changed since you first started working on it?
From the beginning of the idea to writing the song to finding where it lived in the production world, it truly didn’t change much because I wanted to keep to the core of the song. I wanted to make sure we balanced the dreamy with the contagious groove.
My amazing producer and I spent quite some care and time trying to get the feeling and how I wanted to make people feel. We got there, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I hope people love it as much as I do.
The heart of the song never changed through every stage of the process. It was always about that exciting feeling of not knowing where something is going, but my producer and I finessed the production until it felt like the world I imagined when I first wrote it. We spent a lot of time making sure it felt warm, summery, and cinematic, without losing the intimacy of the original idea.
What do you hope fans will take from will they won’t they, and who do you think your music will appeal to?
I hope it reminds people that it’s okay not to have everything figured out. Sometimes we spend so much time trying to get answers that we forget how beautiful and juicy the anticipation can be.
I also just hope it makes people smile. If someone listens while they’re driving with their friends, watching a sunset, or thinking about someone they like, then it’s already done its job.
As for who my music connects with, I think anyone who’s ever overthought a text, romanticised a moment, or turned everyday life into a movie in their head will probably understand my songs, or hopefully feel understood. We’re in this together.
How do you feel on the release days of your new singles, and what has it been like releasing original music regularly this year (chemistry / i like like you / run after me)?
It’s been really exciting sharing each song as I work towards releasing my album. I’m always so excited to share from my heart to yours. It’s always surreal when I realise the song is out in the world to live its own life!
Having filmed numerous music videos for your YouTube channel, what were they like to film?
Music videos are so much fun! It’s exciting to have another way to tell the story and live in the world with whoever’s watching.
It’s such a free-flowing art form. Nothing goes exactly according to plan. It can be stressful in those first milliseconds, but it’s actually kismet. I love having the shot list, all the prep, and all the planning, and then I really look forward to the inevitable improvising on the day and finding so many gems, moments, and feelings along the way.
I had always wanted to get behind the camera. I realised I don’t have to dream it, I can just do it, try it, and go for it. I love exploring and learning from the directing side to the writing side to the editing side to the producing side.
I’ve always been a romcom girl, and would love to be in one one day soon, so I’m making my own little romcoms and snapshots with these music videos.
You also have a successful acting career; how is it balancing music and acting and do you have a favourite aspect of each?
I am enamoured with storytelling, whether it’s music, acting, filmmaking, or writing.
In many ways, music and acting can be really different, but they influence each other so much too! For acting, I’m stepping into different lives and different situations, whereas for music, I’ve got to step into my own life and untangle those self-discoveries.
As an actor, stepping into different characters and situations gives me so much perspective in life and really inspires me for songwriting. It’s funny how many songs I’ve written when I’ve gotten so inspired by the characters I fall in love with, and also the ones I have to fall out of love with (haha). Acting and songwriting really help me learn more about who I am and lead me to discover so much about this world.
Both acting and music really benefit from being super observant towards everything around me – from people to places to all the little things. Self-discovery in songwriting and music really influences me in acting too, of course.
When I’m acting, I’m helping bring someone else’s vision to life. When I’m making music, I’m getting to share from my heart and my own perspective.
How was it making your feature film debut in 2022 in James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water as Tuk and what was it like reprising your role for last year’s release of Avatar: Fire and Ash?
It was surreal to see myself on the big screen for the first time, and as my blue alter ego.
So much happens so fast in Tuk’s life within The Way of Water and Fire and Ash. She’s dealing with death and departure for the first time in her life. She’s going through things no one should ever have to go through. It was interesting to grow with her, discover her, and discover through her at the time of filming. I truly can’t wait to discover who Tuk is as she grows up. Fingers crossed.
How would you describe Tuk and what is she like to play?
I feel so connected to Tuk. She’s been a part of my life for more than half of my life now, so we’ve really grown up together. Like her, I grew up in a mixed family, and we’re both the youngest.
Tuk loves her family more than anything. She sticks by the family mottos, “Sullys stick together” and “Sullys never quit”. She carries those mottos in her heart, wherever she goes, in the lightest and darkest of moments, and reminds her family of the mottos like a mascot we all need, haha.
She’s curious, she’s feisty, and she has a huge heart.
I love getting to tap into instinct while playing Tuk because she is naturally impulsive. Every day was all about discovery, physically and emotionally. It always felt like a wild ride of exploring and letting your imagination run wild. So much of the fun and the key to it all is living in the moment with Jim and my castmates. Acting is reacting.
What is the experience like being involved with James Cameron’s Avatar franchise and attending the film premieres?
I’m so grateful to be a part of my Avatar family. Our cast and crew have inspired me as a fellow creative, but especially on the personal level. I wouldn’t be who I am today without this Avatar journey.
The film premieres were out-of-body experiences. Whenever I think about them, I’m overcome by wishing that I could’ve had a superpower-worthy memory to place myself in the moment all over again and wish I could remember every facet of those days in visceral detail.
Also, the premieres are the special times where we get to be in person with the fans! Talking to them, feeling their contagious excitement, and seeing them on theme and all dressed up made me so happy. Those were the moments where I’d realise how big this Avatar community is. I’m grateful for their love and support for these characters and this story.
There’s nothing like experiencing the movie with a full house and feeling the waves of laughter, cries, gasps, and all kinds of emotions happen in real time after everyone’s anticipation and excitement. It’s always exhilarating to be reunited with my Avatar family and see everyone’s work coming together on the big screen. I mean, sometimes it feels like I’m watching a huge part of my childhood up on that screen. It’s trippy.
Can you tell us about your time filming for The Life of Chuck as Cat McCoy (based on the 2020 novella by Stephen King)?
The Life of Chuck = I’ve never felt my body and feet ache like that before. We danced until we couldn’t… and then danced some more.
I got to work with and learn from the legendary Mandy Moore. I was geeking out and was in awe since I’m a huge Swiftie and La La Land fan, and she choreographed both. I was so excited to work with the iconic Mike Flanagan and be a part of an ensemble cast with people that really inspire me.
My character, Cat, is someone I’d want to be friends with. The whole thing was so much fun and went by too fast. I love how we mixed eras, and I loved falling into this tone. What a warm set. The story made me think about life differently.
How was it joining the live-action series The Really Loud House as guest character Stella Zhau and going on to play Stella in the Halloween TV movie A Really Haunted Loud House?
I loved the animation growing up, so it was fun for sure. The Halloween spirit, being a part of the quests, and not taking anything seriously… I loved a good ol’ hair change because Stella had bangs.
What are some of your favourite memories from playing Gabriella in the Apple TV series Best Foot Forward opposite Logan Marmino and Peyton Jackson?
Some of my favourite memories were FaceTiming with my castmates the night before most filming days. We’d run lines and discuss together.
Since, like so many, I missed it in the pandemic, I loved experiencing middle school. Things like lockers, cliques and detention…
It was a really lovely and heartwarming story and project to be a part of.
How was it getting into character as Alexa Huh Garcia in the 2022 sitcom The Garcias, which was a sequel to The Brothers Garcia (and starred the original cast)?
Playing Alexa was an adventure. I was in a totally new place – Puerto Aventuras, down in Cancún, Mexico – and away from home for three whole months.
Both Alexa and I love to express ourselves through art. She’s inquisitive, observant, and sprinkles in her sass and fun.
As a voiceover actor, your roles have included Rita Raspberry across all episodes of Princess Power for Netflix and Marzipan in the Christmas film Glisten and the Merry Mission, can you say about working on these projects?
Playing Rita Raspberry was endless fun. I mean, I got to be a princess from the Raspberry Kingdom! She sings, she dances, she paints, she’s crafty, she bedazzles in high-stakes situations, she lives for the drama, she loves to save the day, and she loves to “do it for the plot” daily with her friends.
The girl power is everything, and these “princesses wear pants!”. One of my favourite things about playing Rita Raspberry was her incredible vocab, her “isms”, and her catchphrases. She says things like “fantabulous”, “ruffles”, and “pinky tea promise”.
I love Christmas sooo soooo much. It’s my favourite holiday. As soon as I heard Marzipan’s name, Marzipan Sparkletoes, I was obsessed with her. I loved playing Marzipan and getting to immerse myself in the magic of her quest and journey. She is wide-eyed, whimsical, loving, and determined.
It’s funny because, in my real life, my friends and family joke about how tall I am, but with Marzipan, she’s only a couple of feet tall. I have always admired Julia Michaels, as her own artist and as a songwriter behind so many songs I love. I geeked out getting to play mother-daughter and record lines side by side together.
Where does your love of music and acting come from and how did you get into both?
Even as a wee little kid, I loved singing my favourite songs, putting on my own little concert for anyone who would listen, making up stories, playing pretend, mind-dumping thoughts or moments into jingles which later turned into my love for songwriting. I also loved local musical theatre camps… I just loved anything to do with creating and performing.
Writing little ditties was how I had fun, but then it became how I untangle thoughts and process feelings, and something I need in my life and love so much.
I’m a bit of a black sheep in my family (haha).
Do you have any favourite music artists to listen to, and films and TV shows to watch?
I love listening to pop girlies, different genres, different decades…
I always come back to artists like MJ, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Gracie Abrams, Olivia Rodrigo, and Lily Allen, and I love older music.
Some artists become friends that are there for you in all kinds of moments, from ordinary to extraordinary. I hope I can be there for someone like that.
I’m a romcom girl for life. Anything with characters I root for and a story that hooks me or makes me feel.
Movies and shows that are coming to my head… 10 Things I Hate About You, La La Land, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Bottoms… Friends is a comfort show. “When life gives you tangerines” forever impacted me, and my mom and I cried so many tears binging it together.
Dang, I’m sad that I’m blanking right now, haha. You know how when someone asks you about your favourites of some category and your memory just goes out the window.
How do you like to spend your free time?
Reading. Hanging with friends. Noodling around with music. Songwriting is my me time. Creating. Observing. Living. Soaking in life. Beach. Skateboard. Watching movies or shows. Roller coasters #adrenalinejunkie.
What are you hoping the rest of the year brings for your career, and do you have any upcoming plans that you can share?
I’m really excited because this is building towards something much bigger.
I’ve been releasing singles throughout the year, and they’ll all lead into my debut album, forever fool. I’m excited for people to hear how the songs fit together because they’re all connected in different ways.
More than anything, I hope I keep growing as a songwriter and artist, and finding people who connect with what I’m creating. That’s always been the most rewarding part.
