In the August Netflix release of The Thursday Murder Club (based on Richard Osman’s 2020 novel of the same name), Everly Klann filmed the bus scene with Dame Helen Mirren as Elizabeth Best and Celia Imrie as Joyce Meadowcroft, with the scene having gone viral on social media platforms worldwide. With The Thursday Murder Club marking Everly’s first professional acting role, she was directed by Chris Columbus in the Amblin co-production (Steven Spielberg), and Everly reunited with some of the cast and crew in August at the screening in London’s Leicester Square. Alongside acting, Everly also has a passion for dance, performing in ballet amongst other disciplines, and competed at the Dance World Cup for Team England, and she is part of an Acrobatics Elite group. Chatting with Everly, she talks about having her first professional acting role in the new release of The Thursday Murder Club, filming the bus scene alongside Dame Helen Mirren and Celia Imrie and what she enjoyed most about being part of the Chris Columbus-directed film.

How did you feel booking your role in the new release of The Thursday Murder Club?

I was so excited when I found out! My mummy and daddy told me and I couldn’t believe it at first. I’d done the self-tape audition and really hoped I’d get it, so when I did, I was shocked and screaming with joy once I had processed what my mummy was telling me. She was crying when she told me.

What was it like on set of the film and being directed by Chris Columbus?

It was amazing! Chris Columbus was so kind and made everyone feel comfortable. He explained everything really clearly and made it fun. I learnt a lot just by watching how he worked with the actors. He chatted to me about when he directed Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone and whenever he says the word ā€˜Shocked’ to me, I need to react. He made me feel at ease the whole time. He said to me when I first met him at Shepperton Studios, ā€œEverly, I’m going to make you a starā€.

How was it meeting Dame Helen Mirren (Elizabeth Best) and Celia Imrie (Joyce Meadowcroft) and filming the bus scene with them?

They were both so lovely! Dame Helen gave me lovely advice about how the cameras would work and where to look. They both really encouraged me to just do my best and complimented my professionalism in the scene. Celia was really friendly too. My on-screen mum Nic was super lovely and we had fun together. Filming the bus scene was so much fun – I wasn’t nervous at all, it was a really hot day but everyone was really supportive.

Your scene has gone viral on social media platforms worldwide – how is it knowing the video has been seen by so many around the world?

It feels crazy but really cool! My friends and teachers at school have watched my scene and are proud of me. I still can’t believe how many people have seen it. It makes me really happy that people liked it and found it funny.

What was it like having The Thursday Murder Club as your first professional acting role?

It was such an amazing first job. I learned so much about cameras, acting, and being on set. Everyone was really welcoming, so it was a really good first experience. To be in a Stephen Spielberg production with Amblin, directed by Chris Columbus and amongst an A-list celebrity cast was truly a dream come true.

How did you prepare for filming and is there anything you feel you learnt from this project?

I just knew I had to be myself and put my acting skills to work when on set. I wanted to soak up every minute I was there. I learnt that it’s really important to listen carefully and take direction – and to always have fun with it!

How did you find the experience attending the cast and crew screening at Leicester Square?

It was incredible! I’d never been to a big cinema event like that before. Seeing all the cast and crew again was really nice. Seeing myself on the screen was strange but exciting. Everyone clapped and laughed at my scene and congratulated me at the end, which made me really happy.

Can you tell us how you felt when The Thursday Murder Club was released on Netflix in August and how was it watching the bus scene for the first time?

I was so excited to see it on Netflix! At the time, we were in Dubai, so myself, my mummy, my daddy, my little brother, and my grandparents were all watching the bus scene together in our hotel room. They were all really excited as myself and Mummy had already watched it at the Cinema in London. We kept rewinding the scene back to re-watch my bit. We did mute it when my little brother was in the room due to the naughty word in the scene. Also on the flight home I watched it again.

How did you get into acting?

I’ve always loved performing and started dancing at the age of six months old. My mummy was a professional dancer and singer, and I trained at my mummy’s performing arts school from the age of two-and-a-half but I was in the dance studio from three months old with her, always watching dancing, singing and acting classes take place. I then got on to an agency at aged four and started to get self-tapes for various TV and films.

What are some of your favourite films and TV shows to watch?

I love Home Alone, High School Musical, Descendants, and of course now The Thursday Murder Club! For TV, I like watching The Traitors (celebrity one because Celia Imrie was in it) and The Amazing World of Gumball when I just want something fun.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I love dancing, singing and acrobatics. I also like drawing, arts and craft. I enjoy doing role plays at home with my little brother, we pretend to play schools, cafƩ, airports, doctors etc.

What do you enjoy most about acting?

I like pretending to be different people and getting to tell stories. It’s really fun when you get to make people laugh or feel something from your scene. I’m also very good at directing myself when I watch a self-tape back and can do two different versions of the same scene but portrayed differently.

We understand you have a passion for dance; can you tell us about your dance experience?

I’ve been dancing since I was little (six months old)! I do ballet, tap, commercial dance, lyrical and modern. I’m part of an Acrobatics Elite group, I also do Ballet Associates programme and have competed for Dance World Cup for Team England and came 2nd in the world. I love performing in shows and learning new routines. It helps me with acting too because it teaches you confidence and timing.

Do you have any projects coming up that you can talk about and what are you hoping 2026 brings for you?

I’ve been doing quite a few auditions and hope to do more film or TV soon. In 2026, I just want to keep learning and having fun doing what I love and hopefully land another great role to add to my IMDb page!
