Amongst Landon’s TV projects, he had a guest role as Blake in an episode of The Rookie – Series 5, a recurring guest role of Ryan in both series of Disney’s Coop and Cami Ask the World, and he played Kyle in an episode of 9-1-1 and Marcus in an episode of Teachers. Also having experience in films, Landon was in the cast of Top Gun: Maverick with Tom Cruise, and Suburbicon, which was directed by George Clooney. Alongside his acting work, Landon has written a short film, which is currently in pre-production. Answering our questions, Landon talked to us about playing Wyatt Campbell in Secrets of Sulphur Springs, his recurring guest role of Ryan in Coop and Cami Ask the World and working on films Top Gun: Maverick and Suburbicon.

Across all three seasons of Disney’s Secrets of Sulphur Springs, you played regular character Wyatt Campbell, what was Wyatt like to play and how was it developing the role over the years?

Playing Wyatt was so much fun. He’s goofy, curious, and always getting into mischief with his twin sister, Zoey. Over the seasons, he grew from Griffin’s little sidekick into a mystery-solving team member. Looking back, it’s cool to see how both Wyatt, and I, matured over the years.

How would you describe Wyatt and who do you think the series (which is streaming on Disney+) will appeal to?

Wyatt is definitely the comic relief of the family. He’s adventurous, silly, sometimes scared, but always well-meaning. The show really appeals to a wide audience, it’s aimed at older kids and teens, but I’ve heard from so many families who love watching together. Even grandparents tell me it’s one of their favourites.

What was it like working alongside the rest of the cast, which included Preston Oliver and Madeleine McGraw as your on-screen siblings Griffin and Zoey, and what were the storylines like to film?

Working with Preston and Maddy was awesome! The chemistry was real both on and off screen. Maddy and I are still best friends. The whole cast was like family, and even though we’re spread across the country now, we still stay in touch and will always be there for each other.

How was it seeing the fan response to Secrets of Sulphur Springs and is there anything you miss most about filming the series?

There are some true die-hard Secrets of Sulphur Springs fans! I love seeing edits of the show on Instagram and TikTok. The show flew a little under the radar at first, but as new people discover it, it’s great watching them get pulled into the mystery.

What I miss most is the cast and crew, we were a real family. We lived through a global pandemic together, a hurricane, and so many special memories. And I miss New Orleans, the architecture, the food, the people. It was such a special city to call home.

How was it finding out you’d booked the role of Wyatt and you’d be joining a new Disney series as a regular character?

Booking Wyatt was truly a dream come true. Disney has been a huge part of my life. I’ve celebrated every birthday at Disneyland since I was two. Landing a series regular had always been a goal of mine, and the fact that it happened with Disney made it even more special. I had tested for a few other regular roles before, and I’m actually grateful for the noes because they made me available for Sulphur. It taught me that you never know what’s around the corner.

Do you have any favourite highlights from your time involved with Secrets of Sulphur Springs that you can share?

One stand-out memory was during the hurricane. I’m from Los Angeles, so hurricanes were totally new to me. We were staying in a historic hotel when the power went out. Maddy and I grabbed flashlights, built a sheet fort, and watched movies – and we even filmed scary movies in the hotel hallways with Kelly Frye. But honestly, every day on set was a highlight. When you love what you do, it never feels like work.

How was it filming a guest role as Blake in an episode of The Rookie – Series 5?

Filming The Rookie was a blast. My brothers are big into baseball, so it was especially fun to step into the role of a baseball player.

How did you find the experience on set of Top Gun: Maverick, and had you seen any of the Top Gun films before auditioning?

When I auditioned, the project had a different name, so I had no idea it was Top Gun. I hadn’t seen the original, but of course I knew Tom Cruise. Working with him was inspirational. His dedication to his craft is incredible, and he went out of his way to make sure I felt comfortable on set.

You played the recurring guest role of Ryan in both series of Coop and Cami Ask the World for Disney, what was this show like to be part of?

Coop and Cami was such a fun experience. Paxton Booth and I have known each other for a long time and are friends outside of acting. Fun fact: I actually auditioned for the role of Ollie!

Can you tell us about your time filming for episodes of 9-1-1 as Kyle and Teachers as Marcus?

9-1-1 was a unique experience. I played a character caught in a tsunami. The makeup team did an amazing job with injuries, and filming on a hospital set felt so real.

On Teachers, they had a live bear for the episode! Because I was a minor, I couldn’t be on set with him, so I had to pretend to see him. That was a first.

Early in your career, you worked on the feature film Suburbicon, what do you remember most from being on set of a George Clooney-directed project?

I have a funny memory from that set. I was young and didn’t really know who George Clooney was. At one point, he was carrying the bike I rode in a scene, and I said, ‘Mr. Clooney, I have a joke. Why did Adele cross the road?’ He said, ‘I don’t know, Landon, why?’ I replied, ‘To say hello from the other side’. I had no idea my mic was live, so the whole crew, and my mom, heard it!

How did you get into acting and was it always something you wanted to do professionally?

In second grade, a friend missed school because he booked a commercial, and I thought the idea of missing school sounded amazing. I got an agent soon after and quickly booked a small role on Conan. The moment I walked on stage and saw the live audience, I knew this was what I was meant to do.

What are some of your favourite films and TV shows to watch?

TV: Breaking Bad, You, Stranger Things, The White Lotus (all seasons).

Movies: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (a classic!), The Wolf of Wall Street, Call Me By Your Name.

How do you like to spend your time away from acting?

Outside of acting, I love painting, writing short films, and just hanging out with friends.

What are you hoping this year brings for you, and do you have any acting projects coming up that you can talk about?

I’ve written a short film that’s currently in pre-production, and I’m really excited about the team coming together for it. I’m looking forward to stepping behind the camera on this project, and I can’t wait to share it.
