Lynn Pai as her on-screen mother Tao, with her other projects including short films Mic Check on the Ground Floor, Sisters and Seneca, Speak. Answering our questions, we found out from Capri about working with brands including Balmain and Dior, walking the Rookie USA runway, uploading makeup videos to social media including recreating the Evil Queen makeup with Gal Gadot and acting in short films.

As a model, you have worked with brands such as Kenzo, Balmain, Boss, UGG, Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs and Boden; what are some of your favourite highlights so far from your modelling career?

There have been so many! Shooting for Balmain was insane; their clothes are so cool and edgy, and they made the final video look like something out of a movie. The Dior campaign was another favourite because we got to shoot on the beach, and the dresses were just so beautiful. But honestly, the best highlight is making new friends on set. You meet so many amazing people from all over the world.

Can you tell us about walking the Rookie USA runway in 2023?

Walking for Rookie USA is the best kind of chaos! The energy backstage is just buzzing, and everyone is getting hyped up. Then you step onto the runway, the music is SO loud, and for that one minute, you just feel super powerful. I always get butterflies right before, but they’re the good kind! It’s such an honour to be part of that energy.

What do you enjoy most about working as a model?

I love the teamwork part of it. It’s so cool how a whole group of people like the photographer, the stylist, the hair and makeup artists, all come together with one vision. You start the day in a chair, and a few hours later, you’re part of this incredible picture they’ve created. Plus, I get to travel and wear these amazing clothes. It’s like playing dress-up, but it’s your job!

How is it seeing your finished photoshoots/campaigns for the first time?

It’s the weirdest, coolest feeling! It was with the Zara Lunar New Year campaign, seeing my face on their website all over the world was just… whoa. My friends were sending me screenshots! On set, you’re just focused on the work, so when you see the final photo, it’s like, “Wait, that’s really me?!”. It makes all the early mornings and hard work feel totally worth it.

What do you feel you’ve learnt from your time as a model so far?

I’ve definitely learned how to be more responsible and confident. When you’re on set, you have to be professional and listen to directions, but it also teaches you to trust yourself in front of the camera. It’s helped me get a lot better at balancing everything – school, work, and just having time to be a kid.

How do you find the experience attending events such as the Freakier Friday, Snow White and IF film premieres?

Oh, premieres are SO much fun. It feels like you’re living in a movie for a night, getting all dressed up for the red carpet. And you get to see the movie before anyone else! We were laughing so hard during Freakier Friday, and I totally cried at the end of IF, it was so touching. But the Snow White premiere felt extra special, because getting to work with Gal Gadot was just amazing.

You filmed a video recreating the Evil Queen makeup with Gal Gadot, who played the Evil Queen in the recent Disney live-action Snow White, what was it like meeting and filming with Gal?

Meeting Gal Gadot was an actual dream come true! I was so nervous walking in, but she is the nicest person and gave me a big hug right away. She made me feel so comfortable. Filming the Evil Queen makeup video with her was so much fun because she was so playful and kept making jokes. She’s a huge star, but she’s also just really kind and wonderful. I’ll never forget that day.

Do you have a favourite aspect of filming makeup videos for social media, and how is it seeing the response to your content?

I love that I have total creative freedom! I get to pick the sound, the vibe, the transitions… it really is like making a mini-movie. But honestly, the best part is hearing how much people love them. It makes my day.

At the end of 2024, you interviewed Rihanna for her FENTY x PUMA collection, how was this?

Interviewing Rihanna was one of those moments I’ll never believe actually happened! I mean, it’s RIHANNA. She was so cool, so funny, and so smart about her collection and her vision. She makes you feel like you can achieve anything. I left that interview just buzzing with energy and feeling totally inspired.

You are also an actor, and recently played Faye in the short film The Other Moon Goddess opposite H. Lynn Pai as your on-screen mother Tao, how would you describe Faye and what was she like to play?

Faye was such a cool character to figure out. She’s super strong-willed and curious, and she’s trying to connect with her family’s culture in her own way. It was interesting to play someone who is starting to see her mom not just as a parent, but as a person with her own story.

Can you tell us about some of the other short films you’ve worked on, which include Mic Check on the Ground Floor, Sisters and Seneca, Speak?

Every film was so different! Mic Check on the Ground Floor was just pure fun and silly. Sisters was way more emotional. And Seneca, Speak had such an important message. I love that with every role, I get to jump into a new world and learn something new.

How do you typically prepare for acting roles and do you have a process for learning scripts?

The first thing I do is read the script a bunch of times. First, just to get the story, and then I focus only on my character. I’ll go through with a highlighter and make little notes about what I think she’s feeling. Then, working on the scenes with my acting coach is key. That’s when I can really start to experiment and the character starts to feel real.

Where does your love of acting come from and how did you get into both acting and modelling?

I’ve loved movies forever! I used to watch them with my mom and then act out scenes or make up my own characters. That’s where the acting bug came from. Modelling happened almost by accident, Zara actually approached my sister and me! That opened up this whole new world for me, and after that, I started taking acting classes and going on auditions. It’s crazy how one thing led to another, and I feel super lucky I get to do both.

Do you have any favourite films and TV shows to watch?

Oh, my list is so long! I love the big Marvel movies and classic Disney, of course. But I’m also obsessed with anything with Jennifer Aniston. I think she’s hilarious and so good in everything she does.

How do you like to spend your free time?

When I’m not working, I’m just trying to be a normal kid! I hang out with my friends, we have a Duolingo streak that we try to keep alive, which is hilarious. I also play piano and love to dance. I also watch a lot of K-dramas with my mom.

What are you hoping the rest of 2025 brings for you and do you have any projects coming up that you can talk about?

I hope the rest of the year just brings more fun projects where I can learn and grow. I want to keep challenging myself with interesting characters and cool photoshoots. I do have a few exciting things in the works that I wish I could share… but my lips are sealed for now! You’ll have to stay tuned!
