On 19th May, Izabela Rose will be releasing her new single Honey Honey Baby, having recently released her song Be Careful, Love, and last year, her debut single as an independent artist was released called Sunkissed. Izabela is currently touring Simon Malls as part of Scouting for Stars, and she was the opening act at the 2022 Special Olympics, and as an ambassador for the event, she is set to open the 2026 Special Olympics as well. As an actor, Izabela had a starring role as Quinn in the US Disney release of The Curious Case of Dolphin Bay, working with fellow actors Jayden McGinlay (as Teddy), Ella Proberts (as Daniella) and Allegra Teo (as Jennifer), and she was directed by Christine Luby. Amongst Izabela’s screen roles, she played Young Jess in Series 1 of Secrets of Sulphur Springs, and she starred as Nory in Disney Channel Original Movie Upside-Down Magic. We recently spoke with Izabela about her upcoming new single Honey Honey Baby, playing Quinn in The Curious Case of Dolphin Bay and starring as Nory in Upside-Down Magic.

Your new single Honey Honey Baby is set for release on 19th May, what can you tell us about the song?

I wrote Honey Honey Baby in one day, while I was on tour at SXSW and I was inspired by the heat and the beat of the track. I can’t wait for all of you to dance to it! The vibe is so fun, and it’s definitely a song you’ll want to sing along to!

What are you looking forward to for the release of Honey Honey Baby?

I’m looking forward to hearing it on the radio. And see people vibe to it this summer.

How has it been seeing the response to your recently-released single Be Careful, Love, and what was it like to record?

Seeing the response to my last single Be Careful, Love has been incredible! Fans have just embraced it, and recording it was a blast! I co-wrote it my first day at a creators camp in LA with two other people. When the producer Andrew showed it to me, it reminded me of a disco track and I just wanted to dance. And immediately I was like, ā€˜this is my next drop’.

What was it like releasing your debut single Sunkissed last year and having this be your first release as an independent artist?

Oh man, releasing my debut single Sunkissed last year was a dream come true! Being an independent artist means I get to share my true self and connect with fans in a whole new way, I feel my music is an ode to being a teen growing into a young adult.

Who do you think your music will appeal to and how would you describe your style?

I think my music really resonates with anyone who loves pop, dance, and romanticising their life. As I’ve said earlier, my music is a love letter to being a teenager and saying goodbye to that journey and growing into a young woman. My style is all about catchy melodies and empowering vibes – think a sunny day on an emotional roller coaster, and good times.

Is there anything you are enjoying most about releasing your own music?

What I’m enjoying most about releasing my own music? It’s the freedom to express myself creatively and connect with YOU guys! It’s like we’re all on this journey together! Remember I initially came out during the pandemic. I’m like the only Disney lead kid in history that never got a premiere. Disney had never broke a kid during a pandemic. So I hadn’t got to really meet a lot of the fans of Upside-Down Magic and my shows on Disney. So now I’m getting to meet so many fans I didn’t know I had. And now, most of those kids are my age and coming out to the mall to see my music, which is amazing.

You are currently touring Simon Malls as part of Scouting for Stars, how is this going so far?

It’s been AMAZING! The energy from the crowd is electric, being up on that stage, surrounded by fans, is the best feeling ever! I am so surprised that most of the fans that come to see me have been following before I started putting out music.

Can you tell us about some of the other live performances you have done, which includes opening the 2022 Special Olympics?

It was super cool performing live for the 2022 Special Olympics! It was such a meaningful experience, I have family members on the spectrum and I loved being part of something so special! And stay tuned, I’ll be continuing being an ambassador and opening for the 2026 Special Olympics as well.

As an actor, you played the starring role of Quinn in the US Disney release of feature film The Curious Case of Dolphin Bay, how would you describe Quinn and what was it like filming on location?

Playing Quinn in The Curious Case of Dolphin Bay was such an adventure! Quinn is a fun-loving, brave girl who’s not afraid to dive deep (literally!) for the truth. Filming on location was like a dream – the ocean, the sun, and all the dolphins! I got to adopt a dolphin through the director Christine (Luby), that was pretty cool.

Did you have any favourite scenes to film of The Curious Case of Dolphin Bay and how was it being directed by Christine Luby?

I had so many favourite scenes, but the ones with the dolphins were truly magical! I also got to swim with sharks. Working with Christine Luby as my director was fantastic – she brought out the best in all of us and created an amazing atmosphere on set!

What was it like taking on the role of Young Jess in Series 1 of Secrets of Sulphur Springs and how was it reading the scripts for the first time?

Having Young Jess as my first mean girl role was unforgettable! Reading the scripts for the first time gave me goosebumps – I couldn’t wait to bring her story to life on screen! It’s so great because I heard that someone didn’t think I could play the role just because I had never been seen in a role that was not sunshine and daisies, so to speak, so I was determined to show Disney my different ranges in my acting. I think I did a pretty good job, even my parents could not believe how mean I was.

What are some of your favourite memories from filming your starring role of Nory in the Disney Channel Original Movie Upside-Down Magic?

Filming Upside-Down Magic as Nory was like living in a fantasy land! One of my favourite memories was filming the DRITTEN scene. It’s so crazy when you watch it because what I’m really looking at is a tennis ball and you get to see it as an animated character.

What was Nory like to play and how was it working alongside the rest of the cast?

Nory wasn’t hard to play at all. Nory was really 12-year-old Izabela Rose. I was normally a pretty vivacious child and, just like Nory, I never like to take no for an answer. I always wanted to be the best, which I think more comes from doing pageants since I was six months old.

Where does your love of acting and music come from and how did you get into both?

Well, my love for acting came from growing up watching Shirley Temple and Judy Garland with my mom.

My love of music starts with definitely my grandfather, who actually was a background singer back in the day for acts like Shy Lights, The Coasters and The Temptations.

Do you have any favourite films and TV shows to watch, and music artists to listen to?

I have a very eclectic taste of music. It goes from Doris Day to SZA to Latin music, like Reggaeton and Bachata. I feel like I’m kind of a film snob. I love old Hollywood and I’m very into watching Dorothy Dandridge and Eartha Kitt, a lot of early films that shaped Hollywood for what it is now.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I love spending my time with my family. I don’t get much free time so when I can see them, it’s amazing.

What are you hoping this year brings for your career, and do you have any acting projects or live shows/music releases (apart from Honey Honey Baby) coming up that you can tell us about?

There is so much happening this year. I have the release of Honey Honey Baby as well as three song releases right after that planned. As for my film projects, I am on tour right now with a couple of producers and studios, as well as being on tour hired by music powerhouses Paula Moore and Randy Jackson of American Idol. It’s a 40-city tour going all around the US, inside of Simon Malls. You can go to any of my social medias and see the dates. The tour goes from February all the way until August.
