Last year, Kassidi was seen in the PDSA: The Cost of Loving commercial, and she is currently recording a lead voice role in a new children’s TV animation, and she continues her training with DMA London. Answering our questions, Kassidi talks about starring as the titular character in CBBC series Pickle Storm, playing Jacky in Lovely Little Farm and seeing the series win the Pre-School Live Action award at the 2022 BAFTA Children & Young People award ceremony.
You star as Pickle Storm in the new CBBC series Pickle Storm, how did you feel when the series released in September and what was it like watching the completed episodes for the first time?
Really good! I was excited to show my friends and family what I’d been up to for the summer. I don’t usually like watching myself because it can be odd watching myself acting but I did watch it and I thought it was super funny and it was great to see how it all came to life.

Can you tell us about the series and your character?
Pickle Storm is about the adventures of a nine-year-old girl with uncontrollable magical powers, who has fled her home in the fantasy land of Kleftania and ended up in a small UK town. She is fun and energetic but also crazy and she LOVES a bit of mischief!
What is Pickle like to play and how did you prepare for the role?
She’s so fun to play because she’s like me but with no filter. To prepare for the role, I worked with my acting mentor on developing her and her backstory, which was really fun and I could be creative. Then we had rehearsals and went to filming!

What do you enjoy most about working alongside the rest of the cast, which includes Donna Preston and Inel Tomlinson?
Donna and Inel are really fun to work with and we used to make songs together. They are two of the funniest people I’ve ever met!

Did you have a favourite episode in Series 1 to film and what is it like on set of Pickle Storm?
My favourite episode in Series 1 is called Swaperooni where Pickle and Mr Ludcomb swap bodies! I loved filming the scene where Mr Ludcomb first realises that he now looks like Pickle! I got to change my voice and body language and say all of his dialogue – I loved it.
How was it returning to film the second series this summer and reading the new scripts?
We film in Belfast and it was great to go back, I love all of the people there, everyone is so friendly and they have so many fun things to do on the weekends. It was interesting to see how the characters have changed from Series 1 to Series 2 and I was excited to read what Pickle would get up to in Series 2.

In September, you appeared live as a guest for CBBC’s Saturday Mash-Up, how did you find the experience being a guest on the show?
It was great fun, especially the fact that it was live and I’d never done anything live before. It was also great to meet Viper Sport and now we are going to watch him play in a charity football match in Sheffield, which I am so excited for because I love football, I watch it and I play!

How would you describe your character Jacky in Lovely Little Farm on Apple TV+ and what was she like to play?
Jacky was the very sweet little sister of farmer Jill, she always wanted to be included in the jobs Jill was given and was definitely wiser than her years! Tucker pup was her best friend! I think Jacky was a great first role to have as she was gentle and kind and nice for a six year old to play.
Do you remember how you felt finding out you’d booked the role of Jacky?
Yes, I remember my mum picked me up from school and told me I got the part! I screamed, I was so happy!

What are some of your stand-out memories from your time working on Lovely Little Farm?
My favourite memories are from being in our playroom trailer, we were given so many amazing toys and things to be creative with. I loved working with Darrall Macqueen, they are so lovely and really took good care of us, we always had fun, felt safe and I wish we could have done another series. I also loved eating the freshly picked corn in the final episode, it was delicious!

How was it attending the 2022 BAFTA Children & Young People Awards and having Lovely Little Farm win the Pre-School Live Action award?
Lovely Little Farm winning a BAFTA was an amazing experience and I feel so grateful to have been a part of it! I got to go up on stage when we accepted the award and do red carpet interviews for the first time, which was a great experience. Something I’ll never forget!
Last year, you were seen in the PDSA: The Cost of Loving commercial, what was this like to film?
I loved working with Bianca as my on-screen mum and I adore animals so it didn’t feel like I was working at all.

We understand you are currently recording a lead voice role for a new children’s TV animation, how different are you finding this to filming on screen?
Voice acting is so different and I’m learning lots. My voice director Sharon is the best and we have lots of fun in between recording.

Where does your love of acting come from and how did you get into it?
When I was younger, I used to tell my mum that I wanted to be on TV (I thought you had to
actually climb into the TV 😂). She then signed me up for a little drama club and it kind of just went from there.
Do you have any favourite films and TV shows to watch and how do you like to spend your free time?
I am a big fan of comedy movies and Henry Danger on Nickelodeon. SpongeBob is my all-time favourite animation. In my free time, I play football and love hanging out with my friends.

Can you tell us about your training with DMA London?
I met Dominique Moore whilst filming Lovely Little Farm as she voiced Pickle Pony, we got on really well and she had her own acting school. DMA has now become such a big part of my life. Dominique helps me so much and I don’t know where I’d be without her! We do masterclasses every month too, which are so much fun, and I’ve made so many great friends for life through DMA, I like to call it my happy place!

What are you hoping the next year brings for you?
I want to continue acting, learning and being creative. I feel so grateful to be an actor and have so much support from my family, agent and DMA community.
