Last Friday, January 5th, saw Chloe Star’s latest single Happy Place release, which she wrote and was working on for six months, and the song was produced by Thrasher and made the ‘All New Rock’ Spotify Playlist. Chloe released her debut single Element last year, working with producer Redd and songwriters Wesley Stromberg and Drew Chadwick, and went on to release further singles including Fool and Found My Peace as well as filming music videos. It has been announced that Chloe will be on the line-up of Fresh Fest in Los Angeles on February 8th, and she is planning to release an EP, collaborate with other artists and hoping to tour at some point this year. Recently, Chloe answered our questions about her latest single Happy Place (which released January 5th), filming her music videos and being announced for Fresh Fest.

You have just released your latest single Happy Place on January 5th, can you tell us about the song?

Yes, I did! Happy Place is about living a free life and showing people what my happy place looks like! It’s about finally being able to spread my wings and live my life to the fullest.

When did you start work on the single and how much did the lyrics change over time?

I wrote this song, like, six months ago or so! Not much changed lyrically, only little moments!

Is there anything you’ve enjoyed most about writing and recording Happy Place and how was it hearing the finished song for the first time?

I enjoyed cutting this record with my producer, Thrasher! It was such a solid recording session. The song was, and still is, so relatable to where I am in my life right now, so cutting the song just felt like cutting butter because I really am in my Happy Place.

How did you feel on release day and how has it been seeing the response to Happy Place so far?

I was so excited on release day!!! It’s always exciting when the finished product is out because you work so hard on something that no one knows about then one day it just comes to life in the world! Also, it made the ‘All New Rock’ Spotify Playlist, so that was extremely exciting!!

Happy Place follows the release of your previous two singles Fool and Found My Peace, where did you get the inspiration from for all three and what do you hope listeners take from the releases?

Well, Fool was about being a fool in a toxic relationship, Found My Peace was about finally finding my peace out of a toxic relationship, and Happy Place is about now being free from it all! I hope the listeners can relate to the process of breakups. In breakups we go through so many waves of emotions and all three songs are the different stages of the end of a chapter with someone.

How was it releasing your debut single Element last year and what was it like collaborating with producer Redd and songwriters Wesley Stromberg and Drew Chadwick?

I got a lot of great feedback from Element! My sound has definitely evolved since then, and I’m really loving the direction my sound is going. Working with Redd, Wes and Drew was so much fun because they’re all extremely talented individuals. Redd is an incredible producer and he just has that ear not every producer has. Wes and Drew are incredible writers and also just amazing artists in their own right. I had such a blast being creative with all of them!

Who do you think your music will appeal to and how would you describe your sound?

I think my music will appeal to people who like to be vulnerable and aren’t scared to let loose. My sound is a mix of punk and pop! It’s definitely going to continue to evolve and I just can’t wait to see where it goes!

Can you tell us about your songwriting process, and do you have a favourite aspect of working in the music industry?

My favourite part about working in the music industry is that I just get to be creative all the time! I usually start with a prayer to the music Gods to speak through me before the session starts! Once we have a base of the track/beat, I will lay down some melody tracks and then pick and choose what works for the verse/pre/chorus/bridge, etc. The songs just build from there. Usually the lyrics come pretty easily too once I have the concept in mind.

How do you find the experience of filming music videos?

The experience is a lot of fun because I get to physically tap back into the place that I was in when I wrote the song. I have gotten more comfortable performing on camera in that setting but the first time was definitely nerve-racking. But, being able to pop into that character in a weird way gives me closure from the song. I really enjoy filming music videos and collaborating with other creatives! I have had the opportunity to work with some talented people in these settings.

It’s been announced that you will be performing at Fresh Fest on February 8th, what are you looking forward to for the event and what can audiences expect from your live shows?

Yes! I am soooooo stoked for this show!! I am just looking forward to letting loose on stage and playing my music to a crowd! It’s a blessing that I’m being given this opportunity to jam out with some other really talented artists! I’ll be performing the songs that I’ve already put out, as well as maybe an old cover! I can’t wait for this show!

Where does your love of music come from and how did you get into it?

My love of music comes from the struggles I’ve faced. I started journaling when I was younger, which then eventually led me to songwriting. I didn’t know how to express my emotions, and music really helped me through all of those hard times when I was younger.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I spend my free time with my dogs!! I have three dogs and they are my entire life. Whenever I have free time I am just cuddled up on the couch with my babies!

What are you hoping 2024 brings for you and do you have any upcoming plans that you can tell us about?

I hope 2024 brings me on tour! My plan for this year is to release an EP. I have been working on this EP for a minute now and hopefully it will be out by the spring! I also just want to collaborate with as many artists as possible in all creative areas.
