Alexa Goodall

šŸ“· : Emily Goldie

Most recently on screen, Alexa Goodall was seen playing Sonia McCann in ITV’s The Long Shadow and she played Evelyn Wiseman in The Devil’s Hour and a Canary in the Netflix series Lockwood & Co. Alexa made her acting debut as Bryony Furleigh in Lord of Misrule alongside a cast including Tuppence Middleton, Ralph Ineson and Anton Valensi, which releases on 8th December. In the upcoming TV series A Gentleman in Moscow, Alexa has been cast as Nina, working with Ewan McGregor as Alexander Rostov, with the project based on the 2016 Amor Towles book of the same name. We caught up with Alexa about playing Sonia McCann in The Long Shadow, filming as Bryony Furleigh in Lord of Misrule and her upcoming series A Gentleman in Moscow.

You were recently seen on screen as Sonia McCann in The Long Shadow for ITV, how was this?

Playing Sonia McCann was an incredible privilege. It was very sad hearing about what Sonia and her family went through. I felt so much for her and her brother Richard and their younger siblings. It was particularly moving as we filmed the scenes near where the horrible crimes took place.

How would you describe your character Evelyn Wiseman in The Devil’s Hour and what was she like to play?

Evelyn was incredibly fun to play, she appears to be quite a dark character. I particularly enjoyed the scene where I had to slash a car tyre! I don’t want to tell you too much about Evelyn’s motivations as I don’t want to give the plot away. Let’s just say, circumstances meant that she was wise beyond her years.

How was it working on the feature film Lord of Misrule as Bryony Furleigh and what was it like on set?

This was my first ever acting role. I am so grateful to the fabulous director Brent (William Brent Bell) for believing in me and giving me the opportunity. We filmed it during the time of heavy COVID testing and we all had to wear masks on set. Unfortunately, I got COVID just before the start of filming. I was so worried that it would affect my part. Luckily, with some clever shuffling around of days, it had little impact on my scenes. I was very relieved that it all worked out!

What did you enjoy most about being part of the cast and playing Bryony?

I really enjoyed playing Bryony. We got to shoot quite a few night scenes, which really added to the atmosphere. Bryony was a fun character to play, she’s tough on the outside but deep down is a caring person. I was lucky enough to play alongside some amazing actors like Tuppence Middleton, Ralph Ineson and Anton Valensi, who played my dad (he was a lot of fun!). I also loved acting with Evie Templeton, who played Grace Holland. Evie was like a big sister to me and we are still good friends now.

How was your time filming as a Canary for the Netflix series Lockwood & Co?

I loved this experience. The set was like an underground dungeon, which felt incredibly eerie. We also had to work with explosives, which added even more to the atmosphere. I think it’s every young actor’s dream to work for high profile networks and I was so lucky to be able to add Netflix to my list.

How did you feel finding out you’d booked the role of Nina in A Gentleman in Moscow and what are you looking forward to for the release of the series?

I was ecstatic when I received the news that I had landed the role of Nina in A Gentleman in Moscow. When my agent Andrew called me to tell me – I couldn’t believe it. I’ve recently been down to London to complete post sync services with Sam Miller (director) and Ben Vanstone (showrunner and exec producer). We got to see lots of the first two episodes and it looks even better than I could possibly imagine. The set and costumes are out of this world.

What was it like working with Ewan McGregor, who plays Alexander Rostov?

It was such a privilege to work with Ewan McGregor, he is an amazing actor and became a great friend to me on set. Ewan taught me so much about performing and just ā€˜being’ the character. It wasn’t all one way though! I sometimes helped him learn his lines and, as he lives mainly in America, I introduced him to Greggs, treating him to a steak bake (with a candle) for his birthday… what every Hollywood A-lister desires, right?

How did you get into acting and was it something you always wanted to do?

I’ve been acting since I was four years old at my local acting school. During lockdown I came across the Mark Jermin Stage School and applied to join their online Small Group Acting classes, where I was taught by Mark. I was absolutely delighted when he invited me to join the agency and have been fortunate to land some fantastic roles since. A big thanks goes to Mark and my agents Andrew and Emelye for looking after me so well!

Do you have any favourite films and TV shows to watch?

I’ve recently been enjoying watching all of The Hunger Games films with my family. Jennifer Lawrence is the perfect Katniss. I’m looking forward to watching the new Hunger Games film. I’m also really enjoying Glow Up at the moment! It’s a series where MUAs take part in a knock-out competition, competing to become Britain’s next makeup star.

How do you like to spend your time away from acting?

I’m extremely active! I dance several times a week, play football competitively and am in a basketball team. My main passion is horse riding and I ride a horse called Donald. He’s a very cheeky horse and I love him for it. In my latest role (for an action-adventure movie Robin and the Hood), I got to ride a horse which was a LOT of fun!).

Do you have any other projects coming up and what are you hoping 2024 brings for you?

I have a couple of very exciting potential projects bubbling, which I am hoping will go my way. If they do, then that is all I can ask for in 2024.

Oh, and my very own horse please, Mum! šŸ˜‰
