With Nickelodeon TV series iCarly being revived on Paramount+ in 2021, Jaidyn Triplett stars as Millicent Mitchell across both series of the revival alongside Laci Mosley (Harper) and original iCarly cast members Miranda Cosgrove (Carly), Jerry Trainor (Spencer) and Nathan Kress (Freddie). Earlier this year, Jaidyn attended the Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards, where iCarly was recognised with awards and nominations, which saw them pick up the award for Favourite Family TV Show. Having booked her first screen role in a commercial, Jaidyn has since appeared in numerous projects including Series 5 of The Affair as Thea and Family Reunion as Lily. Jaidyn answers our questions about starring in the revival of iCarly, her character Millicent Mitchell in the Nickelodeon/Paramount+ series and attending this year’s Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards.

Can you tell us about your character Millicent Mitchell in iCarly and what is she like to play?

I think l would describe her as hard-working, strong-willed, and very sarcastic at times… haha. I love playing her because of how different she is. I love going outside my comfort zone, and Millicent helps me do that.

Was there anything that drew you to the Paramount+ series and do you remember how you felt finding out you’d booked the role?

About a week before l got the audition, iCarly had just been released on Netflix! And l was binging a lot. Then, I got the audition, and in my mind, l said, “Wow, I may get to meet the people that are on my TV screen!” And I did, after all! It was so awesome getting the call from my manager saying l booked it. It took a while for it to set in and for me to realise this big opportunity was mine!

What was it like meeting the rest of the cast, which includes original iCarly actors Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress, for the first time, and what’s it like working together?

It’s literally so perfect. We all just click. As soon as I met everyone for the first time, l knew that this set was perfect. We all have very different personalities, but when you put them all together, it works really well. I’m fortunate to see them every day.

How was it seeing the fan response to Series 1 and then returning to set to film Series 2?

I was so happy that the fans loved it. When we got picked up, l was ecstatic because l could see the cast again. Set is my second home, so being able to go back for Season 2 was terrific.

What do you enjoy most about being part of iCarly and playing Millicent?

I’ve learned so much, and I’m happy that l had such an amazing cast. I’m so excited for everyone to see Millicent shine in the last few episodes. I’m glad l get to play Millicent because she’s someone that l get to play around with. They gave me the character, and I get to form the character into who I think she would be best. It’s so awesome to have creative freedom like that.

Do you have any favourite memories from your time in iCarly so far?

I think hanging out with the cast on and off set has been the best! Miranda actually took me to my first Tate McRae concert a couple of months back. It was phenomenal, and I really appreciated her taking me! Me, Miranda and Laci (Mosley) often have lunch as well.

Why would you recommend watching the iCarly revival series?

If you watched the original, I think this would bring back a lot of nostalgia! It’s such an amazing show because nothing ever goes right, and I’m always laughing.

How did you find the experience attending the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards earlier this year and seeing the show be recognised with awards and nominations?

That is an experience I will never ever forget. The whole night was crazy! I met so many people I never thought I’d meet. I met Jordan Fisher, who I absolutely adore! That night l had a full-circle moment! My dad was in Sabrina Carpenter’s Thumbs music video, and at that time, l was watching Girl Meets World, and I loved her music. So my dad ended up FaceTiming me, and I got to meet her! So now I’m on the orange carpet, and I see her. I then explain that she met me over the phone in like 2015, and she’s like, “Oh yeah! I remember you!” And I can’t believe she still remembered me! Six years ago, I was FaceTiming her, and now she’s handing me a Kids’ Choice Award!! That night was so crazy, and it’s one I’ll never forget.

In 2019, you played Thea in Series 5 of The Affair, can you say about this?

That was so long ago! I don’t remember much, but l do remember that l met my close friend Mykal-Michelle (Harris) or “Mimi” on that set! I’m so grateful that she played my little sister on that shoot.

What do you remember from your time on set of Family Reunion, in which you played Lily?

I remember that when I was on set, it felt like home. It sounds odd at first, but I felt so comfortable! Everyone was so sweet. I’m close to Jordyn James and Isaiah Russell-Bailey. Everyone there felt like family!

Over your career so far, you’ve had a number of other acting roles, can you tell us about some of them?

So, the first role I ever got was a Walgreens commercial with my dad! We’ve always been a father-daughter duo. I think one of my favourite roles outside of iCarly was Family Reunion! I met so many of my friends that l have now on that set. It was such a heartwarming set, and I’m glad l got to be part of it!

Where does your love of acting come from, and how did you start?

When l was around three years old, my dad came home to me repeating his lines because I memorised all of them! Some friends told him he should get me into the industry, so he did. I’m happy he did because I’m having the time of my life!! I’ve met so many people that l never thought I’d meet in a million years.

What are some of your favourite films and TV shows to watch, and how do you like to spend your free time?

A very underrated movie that l used to absolutely adore when I was a little kid is A Monster in Paris. It’s about a flea that turns into a giant monster! I won’t spoil it too much, but it’s terrific. I’m also binging Stranger Things right now. I watched Season 1 a couple of years ago but fell off. I’m so glad l’m watching again because this show is phenomenally done.

Is there anything you enjoy most about having a screen career?

It’s in my blood to be an entertainer. I love making people laugh and smile with my creativity. It’s such a rewarding art form because those like me, who enjoy seeing people laugh and genuinely appreciate the art, only need that love to keep going.
