Elodie Blomfield booked her first ever screen role as Phoebe in the award-winning Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso alongside a cast including Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein and Juno Temple, in which she has appeared as the character in both series already released. Also having stage experience, Elodie performed in local theatre productions as Mollie in Annie and Amanda Thripp in Matilda. We caught up with Elodie about playing Phoebe in Ted Lasso, returning to set to film Series 2 and performing on stage.

You can currently be seen in the role of Phoebe in Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso, what is she like to play and can you tell us about her?

To me, Phoebe is very smart and quite wise, but maybe sometimes acts a little bit young for her age. She is naturally a really happy girl, who adores and looks up to her uncle, even though they are the complete opposite!

I think this is what makes their relationship so interesting and also why I like playing this role.

Do you remember how you felt booking the role and how did you prepare for your first day on set?

Getting this role was the best feeling. It was my first ever job, which made it even more amazing. Back then, I didn’t know how big the show would get, or the part of Phoebe, so I still find it all very exciting.

My first day, I wasn’t too sure what to expect, but I wanted to know exactly what I was meant to do, so made sure I knew my scenes really well.

What has been your favourite episode or scene to film?

Definitely the Christmas episode. I got to be there the whole week (eating loads of candy canes!!) and loved feeling like this was actually my job. This is when I decided I really wanted to be an actress when I’m older too.

All my scenes were so much fun and I loved having my own storyline. My favourite scene to film was when Roy and Keeley are trying to find out what is wrong with me on the sofa and they smell my breath.

What’s it like working with the rest of the cast which includes Brett Goldstein as your uncle?

Everyone is super nice and it’s like a big family there. Brett and Juno (Temple) are just the best and make me feel so grown up and like I’m one of them.

How has it been seeing the viewers’ response to the show and having it win numerous awards?

I still can’t believe it. I don’t know how to put into words, to be honest. I feel so incredibly lucky to be part of this show.

How did it feel returning to film Series 2 and reprising your role of Phoebe?

Knowing that the writers believed in me and wanted Phoebe back, was the best feeling. It felt like going back and seeing old friends. I love it there.

What do you feel you have learnt from your time working on the series so far?

Brett and Juno have taught me so much. They are really natural actors and they help me to trust my instincts and know I just become Phoebe when I’m there. Everything doesn’t have to be perfect.

Is there anything you enjoy most about being part of Ted Lasso?

I like everything! It really is a dream job. If I had to pick it would be how much I learn while I’m there.

You have also performed on stage, what do you enjoy about theatre work and can you say about some of the ones you’ve been involved with?

I love the feeling of being in front of an audience. You just can’t beat it.

In local productions, I’ve been lucky enough to play Mollie in Annie and Amanda Thripp in Matilda. These were brilliant experiences. My dream now is to be in a West End show one day.

Can you tell us about your training?

I’ve always gone to local drama/musical theatre schools and, up until recently, I had private LAMDA lessons.

During lockdown, I had lots of online lessons too.

Have you always enjoyed acting and how did you get into it?

Always.

I loved acting lessons from about the age of four and not long after that would start asking my mum if I could be on TV. I wasn’t sure how it worked… I even tried jumping into it once!!!

Do you have any favourite TV shows or films to watch?

I love Strictly Come Dancing and would love to be on it one day. The Harry Potter movies are brilliant and, of course, Ted Lasso!

How do you like to spend your time away from acting?

As a family, we go camping a lot and like being outdoors. I also love to go rock climbing and have been doing gymnastics since I was three.

What are you hoping 2022 brings for your career?

I would love to be in a movie! I’m really into mysteries/scary books, so something along those lines would be really cool!
