Scarlett Moffatt

Later this week, Scarlett Moffatt will begin her run as the Fairy Godmother in The Hawth in Crawley’s pantomime Cinderella, performing alongside a cast including Nigel Clarke, with the show running from 10th December to 2nd January. Last year, Scarlett was a contestant on Celebrity Karaoke Club, which she went on to win, and she currently hosts her own BBC podcast Scarlett Moffatt Wants to Believe with her boyfriend Scott. We caught up with Scarlett about playing the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, winning Celebrity Karaoke Club and her BBC podcast Scarlett Moffatt Wants to Believe.

In this year’s pantomime Cinderella at The Hawth theatre in Crawley, you will be playing the Fairy Godmother, what are you looking forward to for performing in the pantomime over the Christmas period?

I love playing the fairy, she sums up Christmas. Magic, hope and glitter.

What do you think you’ll bring to the character and what can families expect from your performance?

I always bring a little bit of Geordie wit to my character, just because you’re a fairy doesn’t mean you can’t have a good sense of humour.

How was it meeting the rest of the cast for the first time and getting into character?

I was so nervous meeting the cast but I don’t know why because they’re all absolutely wonderful.

Why would you recommend watching Cinderella at The Hawth this December?

Everyone should come and see Cinderella this Christmas at The Hawth in Crawley. You will laugh, cry, cheer and walk away with a heart full of warmth.

Did you grow up watching pantomimes?

My favourite childhood panto memory is seeing the Chuckle Brothers in Aladdin. I went with my primary school and I remember thinking wow, I’d love to be on that stage one day.

Do you have a favourite aspect of being part of a pantomime cast?

What I love about panto is that the whole room is part of the performance. Sometimes on stage I don’t keep a straight face, that’s the joy of panto. If something goes wrong or something funny happens, you can join in on the laugh with the audience.

Can you tell us about your BBC podcast Scarlett Moffatt Wants to Believe?

My BBC podcast Scarlett Moffatt Wants To Believe is all about the weird and wonderful. I try and convince Scott, my boyfriend, to believe in things like mermaids, aliens and the dancing plague. We also have great guests on like Daisy May Cooper, Jon Ronson and Joe Lycett.

In 2020, you won Celebrity Karaoke Club, what was this like?

I loved Celebrity Karaoke Club and was shocked I won. My family always say if I went on The X Factor I would get through the first round but I definitely wouldn’t make judges houses.
