In July, Nolan River will be seen in M. Night Shyamalan’s new thriller Old, which Nolan filmed in the Dominican Republic and the highly-anticipated teaser trailer had its debut during the Super Bowl earlier this year. Nolan had his TV series debut in New Girl and he worked alongside his father Thomas Nicholas in feature film Adverse where he played Jake’s (Matt Ryan) son, and he is currently working once again with Thomas on a children’s music project. Chatting to us, Nolan tells us about filming M. Night Shyamalan’s new thriller Old, having the trailer shown during the Super Bowl and working alongside his father – actor Thomas Nicholas – on Adverse.
How did it feel booking your role in the upcoming M. Night Shyamalan thriller Old?
I was excited! I also knew that I was going to miss home when I found out it was filming in the Dominican Republic.
What was it like on set of the film and what do you remember from meeting the cast for the first time?
We were on the beach, so the set was really cool. I loved the rock wall they made. I met M. Night and the cast for the first time at the table read in the Dominican. I was a little shy at first.
How have you found the experience working with M. Night Shyamalan?
It was my first big movie and M. Night was really nice.

Do you have any highlights from your time working on the film and what are you looking forward to most for the release?
I really liked the inside of the cave that they built on a sound stage. When we were inside it didn’t seem like a movie set at all. I’m looking forward to seeing the movie, at least the scenes that I filmed, since the movie is rated R.
What was it like seeing the trailer be shown during the Super Bowl?
It was really cool. My grandparents were so excited and told all their friends to watch it.
You recently worked with your father Thomas Nicholas on the feature film Adverse as Jake’s son, what was the role like to play and how was it being in the cast?
It was a fun role since my character’s action was building with Lego and I love building with Lego. I also got to stay up a little past my normal bedtime since we were filming at night.

What did you enjoy most about working on the production?
I enjoyed getting to work with my dad on his film instead of just going to set to visit.
Can you tell us about making your TV series debut as Reginald Veljohnson in an episode of New Girl?
I had such a fun time on set that I didn’t want to leave even when my work was over.
What do you remember most from your time on set?
I remember jumping on the couch and being thrown in the air by the stunt guys to a big stunt pad.

What TV shows and films do you enjoy watching?
Ninjago, Wild Kratts, The Magic School Bus, Harry Potter movies and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
How do you like to spend your time away from acting?
I like reading books, building Lego sets, playing Nintendo Switch, and playing with my little sister.
Can you tell us about any other projects you’ve worked on and are there any actors you’d most like to work alongside in the future?
I’m working on a children’s music project with my dad and my sister called The Robot Kid. I hope that I get the chance to work with Daniel Radcliffe one day.
